Crystal structure of the organic superconductor bis-(ethylenedithiolo) tetrathiafulvalene triiodide, (BEDT-TTF)/sub 2/I/sub 3/

The authors have made an x-ray structural investigation of the crystals of (BEDT-TTF)/sub 2/I/sub 3/ (a = 6.09 A, b = 9.083 A, c = 15.267 A, ..cap alpha.. = 85.63/sup 0/, ..beta.. = 95.62/sup 0/, ..gamma.. = 70.22/sup 0/, P1, Z = 1). The packing of the cation radicals of BEDT-TTF shows that there is a two-dimensional conducting system in these crystals. The linear I/sup -//sub 3/ anions lie at the centers of symmetry, and the I--I distance is 2.909(1) A.
