Study of dye lasers pumped by the second harmonic of an acousto-optic Q-switched, quasi-CW YAG laser

A Q-switched quasi-cw YAG laser frequency-doubled with a KTP SHG crystal used as the pumping source for dye lasers. The performance of this system including pumping efficiencies, output laser linewidth, and optimum pumping parameters with different dyes and different frequency selection elements is discussed. Considering the loss characteristics the frequency selection elements and by obtaining the numerical solution of multiwavelength rate equation, the effects of beam round trips through frequency elements in the dye laser cavity on the output linewidth are discussed. The results of the calculation are in agreement with the experimental data.
