Synthesis of vinylselenonium salts

The reaction of /beta/-bromoselenonium salts with aqueous sodium carbonate leads to the formation of vinylselenonium salts. Tetramethylene(2-bromocyclohexyl) selenonium bromide is only dehydrobrominated by sodium hydroxide in DMSO. The reaction of tetramethylene(1-bromomethylcyclobutyl)selenonium bromide with the sodium dimethylsulfoxide derivative gave a tetramethylene(cyclobutylidenemethyl)-selenonium salt. Unlike the vinylsulfonium salts, the vinylselenonium salts do not react with sodium hydroxide and methoxide.
