In the nuclear industry the development of techniques to identify and quantitate specific forms of radionuclides in the environment is a pressing need. The chemical form (species) of radionuclides dominates their impact on and fate in the environment. Chemical speciation methods development and research being initiated by Rockwell Hanford Operations at the Hanford site is discussed.
