Sterically screened halogenocyclobutanones. III. (2 + 2)-Cycloaddition of dichloroketene to cyclopropyl-substituted methylenecyclopropanes

The reaction of dichloroketene with cyclopropyl-substituted methylenecyclopropanes leads to good yields of substituted cyclobutanones containing a spiro fragment at position 2. The reaction of the 5,5-dichlorospiro(2.3)hexan-4-ones synthesized in this way with potassium hydroxide leads to 6-hydroxy-5-oxaspiro(2.4)heptan-4-ones, while the reaction with sodium methoxide makes it possible to synthesize substituted esters of cyclopropanecarboxylic acids.
