Picosecond synchronously pumped dye laser with higher average power

OSTI ID:5946905
The possibility of obtaining picosecond light pulses from a high average power cw dye laser was investigated experimentally. An average power of /approx gt/1 W with pulsewidth of /similar to/1 psec was obtained for both pure mode-locked pumping and hybrid mode locking, in which a saturable absorber was added to the dye solution. For pure mode-locked multiline pumping, an efficiency of /similar to/25% was achieved in rhodamine 6G dye. The shape of the autocorrelation curves of the pulses obtained was analyzed by matching to known functions.
