Lever Brothers is running a 2.8 MW cogeneration system that it engineered in-house to reduce manufacturing energy costs on a weekly startup and shutdown schedule. The plant produces 17,500 pounds of steam per hour, and has a net heat rate of 8500 Btu per kWh. Among the design features that improve efficiency and performance are evaporative cooling, feedwater preheating, generous heating surfaces in the boiler design, and a dual-fuel system. It can automatically switch under load from natural gas to distillate fuel as fuel costs and availability warrant. 6 figures.
