Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5943913
The Greenacres Landfill is a former sanitary dump consisting of 45 acres in Spokane County, Washington. Greenacres Landfill, located in a semi-rural portion of eastern Spokane County, accepted municipal, agricultural, and industrial wastes, including paints, solvents, pesticides, and wood-processing chemicals. A nearby residential well was found to be contaminated with volatile organic compounds and consequently the residence was connected to the municipal water supply. Further remedial investigations revealed groundwater contaminated with volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, and heavy metals. The site poses a public health hazard because of probable human exposure to contaminated groundwater that could cause adverse health effects. Potentially, the site may pose a public health hazard through exposure to soil-gas contaminants that could cause adverse health effects.
