The heterobimetallic, metal-metal bonded complexes ({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}Me{sub 5})(CO)Ir({mu}{sub 2}-CO){sub 2}Mn(CO)({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}Me{sub 5}) (1), ({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}Me{sub 5})(CO)Ir({mu}{sub 2}-CO){sub 2}Re(CO)({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}Me{sub 5}) (2), and ({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}Me{sub 5})(CO)Ir({mu}{sub 2}-CO){sub 2}Re(CO)({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}H{sub 5}) (3) have been synthesized by reaction of ({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}R{sub 5})M(CO){sub 2} (THF) (M = Mn, R = H; M = Re, R = H, Me) with ({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 5}Me{sub 5})Ir(CO){sub 2}. The IR, NMR, and mass spectral data for these complexes are reported and are discussed in relation to the molecular structure of 3, which has been established by X-ray diffraction. Crystals of 3 are orthorhombic, space group Pna2{sub 1} with a = 16.739 (2) {angstrom}, b = 9.591 (2) {angstrom}, c = 11.554 (2) {angstrom}, V = 1854.9 {angstrom}{sup 3}, and Z = 4. The structure has been refined to R(F) = 0.027 from 1427 independent observed intensities with I{sub o} {ge} 2.5{sigma}(I{sub o}) in the range 4{degree} {le} 2{theta} {le} 52{degree}.
