Remarks on some legal aspects of solar satellites: an overview
Conference
·
· Space Sol. Power Rev.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5942561
Solar satellites can possibly be of great value in solving the problems concerning the lack of conventional sources of energy. Because solar powered satellites will have to be stationed in a geostationary orbit some of the main points of discussion deal with the legal status of the geostationary orbit and claims of sovereignty connected to this orbit. The situation of the solar satellites in relation to the present space treaties and in relation to environmental problems are briefly discussed. The creation of an international body to promote and control the use of solar energy is encouraged. The views of the Committee of Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and of the ESA relative to the subject will have to be contemplated. 23 references.
