On an exact low-energy duality in heavy-quark semileptonic decay

Shifman and Voloshin have pointed out that in a certain limit there wouldbe an exact and calculable duality between quark- and hadronic-level picturesof meson semileptonic decay. I show here that this duality is local in theDalitz plot and correct to next-to-leading order in the heavy quarks' massdifference. I then discuss some implications of these results for extracting/ital V//sub /ital cb// from data on /ital B//r arrow//ital Dev/bar ///sub /ital e// and/ital D//sup */e/bar v//sub e/. .AE
