Proposed changes in Nuclear Regulatory Commission standards for protection against radiation (10 CFR Part 20)

The draft revision of Part 20 of the NRC Standards for Protection against Radiation would implement many of the recommendations contained in ICRP 26 and 30. Revised limits would be derived explicitly by quantifying risk and then judging the acceptability of the risk by comparison to risks experienced by workers in other industries usually considered safe or to risks normally encountered by the general public. Previous recommendations have been based on protection of the (single) critical organ. Proposed dose limits for workers, pregnant workers, and members of the public are discussed in detail.
