The authors present a simple all-electronic stabilization scheme for suppression of external cavity mode hopping noise in diode lasers. This excess noise is generated when the laser is subjected to optical feedback and may degrade the overall performance of optical systems including sensors. Suppression of the noise has been demonstrated to improve the sensitivity of a coherent sensor by more than 23 dB.
