Thermal/hydraulic analysis research program. Quarterly report, October-December 1982. [PWR]
The RELAP5 independent assessment project at Sandia National Laboratories is part of a multi-faceted effort sponsored by the NRC to determine the ability of various system codes to predict the detailed thermal-hydraulic response of LWRs during accident and off-normal conditions. The version used for the FY82 assessment project was RELAP5/MOD1/CYCLE14, the latest publicly released version available at the time this project was begun. Updates have been added to create cycles 18 and 19. Cycle 18 with some additional recommended updates (most of which were later released as part of cycle 19) was used in FY82 only to determine if problems found with cycle 14 had already been found and corrected by INEL, and is being used as the MOD1 assessment code for calculations started in FY83. The FY83 project will complete the MOD1 assessment, and begin the MOD2 assessment when that code is released, with some preliminary work done using an interim version, MOD1.5.
