Plumage polymorphism in Swainson's Hawk (Buteo Swainsoni): testing a hypothesis of apostatic selection of predators
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:5934921
Breeding success of Swainson's Hawk was studied to test the hypothesis that plumage polymorphism in diurnal raptors increases foraging success by maintaining a frequency dependent unfamiliarity to prey that form search images for predators. Evolutionary implications are discussed. 8 references. (ACR)
