Production of ultrahigh magnetic fields. Technical progress report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5933371

A general method for producing controlled ultrahigh magnetic fields up to the order to 100 MG has been proposed recently. The general method involves imploding a plasma in which a magnetic field has been entrained. The imploding plasma compresses the magnetic field to high strengths. This paper reports the experimental test at the 1 to 2 MG level and high repetition rate of an embodiment of this method using a gas-puff Z pinch.
