Unified semiquantal description of coupled-channels effects in fusion and elastic scattering of polarized heavy ions

Coupled-channels effects occurring in fusion (/sup 23/Na-arrow-right+ /sup 48/Ti) and elastic scattering (/sup 7/Li-arrow-right+ /sup 120/Sn) of aligned deformed heavy ions are treated on the same footing in a semiquantal decoupling approximation which holds for large angular momenta. Numerical results obtained are compared to those of the exact quantum mechanical formalism by invoking recent experimental data.
