Physical-chemical properties of the polychlorinated biphenyls: measurement, estimation, and application to environmental systems

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5929922

Techniques for measurement and estimation of physical-chemical properties were developed, evaluated, and used in deriving a data base consisting of vapor pressures, aqueous solubilities, octanol-water partition coefficients, and Henry's law constants for each polychlorinated biphenyl. This data base was used to assess differences in partitioning behavior of polychlorinated biphenyl congeners among air, water, and suspended particulate matter phases and to determine which thin-film resistance controls the transport of vapors across an air/water interface.
