Extent of stress corrosion cracking in amine plants revealed by survey

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5928891
Within the past few years, several well-publicized equipment failures have focused attention on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in amine plants. As a result, a National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) task group surveyed amine plant operators to determine the extent of SCC in the industry. A second objective of the survey was to identify the chemical and metallurgical factors that influence SCC. The general results of the survey are presented here along with some insight into the mechanisms of SCC in various amine process components.
