TlSbS/sub 2/-TlSbSe/sub 2/ system

The authors have examined the phase relationships in the TlSbS/sub 2/-TlSbSe/sub 2/ section for the Tl-Sb-/anti/S- Se system. The alloys were made from previously synthesized TlSbS/sub 2/ and TlSbSe/sub 2/. The initial elements were Tl 000, Sb CY-0000, ultrapure S, and ultrapure Se. TlSbS/sub 2/-TlSbSe/sub 2/ alloys were synthesized at about 550/degree/C; specimens quenched from the liquid were annealed at about 380/degree/C for 340 h. The cast and annealed were examined by x-ray phase analysis, differential thermal analysis, and from the microstructure, as well as by microhardness measurement. The phase diagram for the TlSbS/sub 2/-TlSbSe/sub 2/ system is of eutectic type and has wide solid-solution ranges.
