Control apparatus for vehicle battery charging generator
A control apparatus is described for a vehicle generator means having an output voltage connected to a battery having a terminal voltage and an electric load connected across the generator means output voltage and the battery terminal voltage. The control apparatus consists of in combination: voltage regulating means for controlling the output voltage of the generator means to a predetermined regulated value in accordance with a reference voltage value; coupling means providing a signal representing an operating state; reference voltage generating means for producing a substantially uniform reference voltage value supplied to the voltage regulating means in the absence of the signal from the coupling means, and for producing a gradually decreasing reference voltage value in response to the signal from the coupling means for gradually decreasing the output voltage of the generator means upon the occurrence of the operating state from a higher regulated value to a value less than the battery terminal voltage value; and circuit means connecting the output voltage of the generator means across the electric load while the generator means output voltage value remains below the battery terminal voltage value and the battery terminal voltage remains across the electric load to provide power to the load.
