National Petroleum Council reports on significant environmental issues of the 1980's. [Monograph]
Environmental issues that need to be addressed during this decade are access to Federal lands, regulatory delays and uncertainties, facility siting, the use of scientifically acceptable techniques in setting environmental standards, siting and operating hazardous-waste-management facilities, and an ecological and public health control plan for the synfuels industry. Other environmental problems not unique to the oil industry are acid rain, carbon dioxide effects, groundwater contamination, and indoor air pollution. The report also identifies specific regulatory requirements that impede resource development, including those concerned with land use, air quality, water quality, and hazardous wastes. (DCK)
