Book ·
OSTI ID:5927279
This bill was introduced into the Senate and the United States on June 26, 1990 to amend the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 to authorize appropriations for fiscal years 1991 through 1995 and to require state coastal zone management agencies to prepare and submit for the approval of the Secretary of Commerce programs for the improvement of coastal zone water quality. The purpose of the act is to enhance the effectiveness of the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 by increasing our understanding of the coastal environment and expanding the ability of state coastal zone management programs to address coastal environmental problems. Provisions are provided concerning the international cooperation in coastal zone management, particularly with regard to strategies for response to sea level rise and natural hazards such as hurricanes, typhoons, and tsunamis. Coastal zone management should be an acknowledged component of an international convention on global climate change.
