Crack propagation rates of austenitic stainless steels under high temperature low-cycle fatigue conditions were obtained from the fracture surfaces. The crack propagation rates were expressed as a function of the crack length, independent of the mode of cracks. The proportion of the cycles corresponding to stage II to the fatigue life could be expressed as a function of the fatigue life. The crack propagation rate for solution treated Type 321 steel at 700/sup 0/C could be expressed as functions of the plastic strain range, the strain-rate, and the crack length.
