A model for the critical resolved shear stress neat peak strength of alloys hardened by ordered precipitates is developed. The model is applied to the specific case of delta' precipitates in binary aluminum-lithium alloys and found to be in good quantitative agreement with measured aging behavior. The effects of precipitate size, size distribution and shape on the critical resolved shear stress are explored via the model and predictions for more optimized microstructures presented.
