Deuteron diffusion and photoluminescence in lithium-doped MgO crystals

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
The presence of lithium impurities in MgO crystals is shown to enhance diffusion of hydrogenic species. Diffusion coefficients and an activation energy for deuteron diffusion were obtained. High-temperature treatment of MgO:Li crystals produces an optical absorption band at 5.3 eV (235 nm) which gives rise to a photoluminescence in the blue-green region.
