Strong decays of mesons with high spins

Decays of mesons with high spins ( J/sup P/ = 2/sup +/, 4/sup +/, 6/sup +/, 8/sup +/)= are studied in the virton-quark model assuming that the mesons are two-quark systems. It is shown that in order to describe the existing experimental data it is necessary to assume that the states of the qq-bar system with orbital angular momenta l = J-1 and l = J+1 are roughly of the same order of magnitude.
