The angular distribution cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering and fusion reactions for /sup 9/Be + /sup 9/Be collisions have been measured in the laboratory energy range E(/sup 9/Be) = 35-55 MeV. The elastic scattering cross sections were analyzed utilizing optical and double folding models. The results of the optical model calculations indicate that the absorptive part of the /sup 9/Be + /sup 9/Be collisions were analyzed using coupled channels calculations. The nuclear deformation of the /sup 9/Be + /sup 9/Be potential is found to be ..beta.. = .36. In the study of the fusion reactions of /sup 9/Be + /sup 9/Be it is found that the contribution of the fusion reaction to the total reaction cross section is about 12% at E/sub L/ = 35 MeV and decreases as energy increases until at E/sub L/ = 55 MeV the contribution drops to about 1.5%, in contrast to heavy ion (A greater than or equal to 12) fusion reactions for which fusion accounts for 85-90% of the total reaction cross section. In addition, elastic scattering and fusion reactions of /sup 12/C + /sup 13/C cross sections were measured and analyzed at energies E/sub L/ = 40, 55 and 60 MeV. The behavior of /sup 13/C projectile is found to be different from that of /sup 9/Be but similar to that of other heavy projectiles such as /sup 12/C and /sup 14/N.
