Advanced technology improves recovery at Fairway

Early in the development of the Fairway (James Lime) field, Anderson and Henderson counties, Texas, the operators recognized the fluid properties were very suitable for a high pressure gas injection miscible recovery project. An alternate gas-water injection program indicated the most favorable economics when compared to conventional water flooding or gas injection. Experience to date indicates additional recovery from alternating gas and water injection is significant, even though the original plan of operations has been modified considerably. Mobility control through water injection is the key factor to increased recovery in the Fairway miscible recovery project. Injected water has greatly restricted gas fingering and increased sweep efficiency. Mechanical procedures using multiple packers and down-hole devices for isolation of high permeability breakthrough zones have been successful in improving poor injection profiles. New thermal decay logging techniques have supplemented knowledge of reservoir stratification and have made valuable contributions to workover planning. Numeric modeling was useful in determining a pragmatic gas-water injection ratio.
