Procedures for analysis of silicate rocks and minerals at Los Alamos National Laboratory by x-ray flourescence
Technical Report

OSTI ID:59160
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is a powerful tool for chemical analysis of materials. Procedures and theory behind chemical analysis of silicate rocks with XRF techniques at the Los Alamos National Laboratory to support Nevada Nuclear Waste Storage Investigations are discusssed. Instrumental procedures, sample preparation, matrix correction, and examples of both analysis of major rock-forming elements and two trace elements (Sr and Rb) are given. Also included is a brief discussion of the basic theory behind XRF analysis.
