An implicit enthalpy - flux component finite element algorithm is presented for nonlinear thermal problems with severe gradients. The algorithm is formulated to permit efficient solution of nonlinear heat transfer problems for unstructured meshes with a large range of element sizes. Two transient conduction examples illustrate the effectiveness of the approach for problems with high temperatures and steep gradients. 8 references.
