Application of the wedge and strip anode to position sensing with microchannel plates and proportional counters

Journal Article · · IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.; (United States)
The wedge and strip anode is a conductive position sensitive anode which is capable of both high spatial resolution and good image linearity, and has the advantage that it is relatively easy to make. The authors have constructed a chevron microchannel plate detector for soft X-rays and EUV which incorporates the wedge and strip anode and it is shown that resolution of /sup -/40..mu..m has been achieved. Results using a high vacuum sealed tube version of this device which has an S20 photocathode for detection of visible light are presented. They also describe a novel multiwire proportional counter which uses a wedge and strip anode, to replace the more conventional crossed grid cathode sense planes, for position readout.
