Title: Flow visualization. Second edition

Book ·
OSTI ID:5912599

Flow visualization is one of may available tools in experimental fluid mechanics. It differs from other experimental methods in that it renders certain properties of a flow field directly accessible to visual perception. In this book an attempt is made to describe and review the most widely used methods for visualizing flows. To define the range of the subject, criterion to test whether a technique would enable one to obtain a visible flow pattern that could be investigated by visual inspection has been chosen. The range of topics encompasses simple dye techniques, density-sensitive visualization methods, and application of electron beams and streaming birefringence. The author has distinguished the various methods and the range applicability by outlining the physical principles on which each is based.
