Extended life nickel-hydrogen storage cell

This patent describes an electrical storage cell having an extended life under deep discharge operating conditions, comprising: an active plate set, the plate set including a nickel positive electrode, a hydrogen negative electrode, a separator between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and an electrolyte including at least about 30 mole percent of a hydroxide selected from the group consisting of rubidium hydroxide and cesium hydroxide, the concentration of the hydroxide being no greater than abut 8 molar; and a pressure vessel that contains the positive electrode, the negative electrode, the separator, and the electrolyte.
