Catalytic process for oxidation of carbon monoxide

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5909168

This patent describes improvement in a process of oxidizing carbon monoxide with free oxygen to a carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst composition comprising a support material selected from the group consisting of alumina, magnesium aluminate and mixtures thereof, platinum metal, and an iron component selected from the group consisting of iron oxide, iron metal and mixtures thereof, wherein the catalyst composition has undergone a reducing treatment. The improvement which comprises: treating the catalyst composition, which has undergone a reducing treatment, with an acidic liquid; heating the material under such conditions as to substantially remove the acidic liquid from the material; and treating the material with a reducing gas under such conditions as to enhance the activity of the material for catalyzing the reaction of carbon monoxide with free oxygen to carbon dioxide.
