Methods and software for differential-algebraic systems

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5909131
In recent years there has been a great deal of progress in the development of numerical methods and software for the solution of initial value problems in differential-algebraic equations (DAE's). In this paper we review the current state of the development and analysis of numerical methods such as multistep and implicit Runge-Kutta applied to classes of DAE's occurring in applications. We describe some of the available software, giving in particular details on the implementation and use of DASSL and its extensions. 37 refs.
