As per the Government's [open quotes]Radioactive Waste Management Guidelines[close quotes] promulgated in 1988, the generators of radioactive waste should take the responsibility and pay for the cost of the treatment, transportation, storage and final disposal of radioactive waste. Due to the fact that over 90% of Taiwan's low-level radioactive wastes (LLW) are produced by Taiwan Power Company (TPC), TPC was designated by the government to dispose of LLW for the entire country. Taiwan's LLW final disposal program will be carried out in the following major phases. Between the phases, there will be periods of time scheduled for the government's review and approval of the documents submitted by TPC.
