A new algorithm for piecewise bicubic interpolation to bivariate data on a rectangular mesh is described. The Hermite form is used to represent the resulting surface. The Hermite derivatives are determined by a five-step procedure that guarantees a monotonic interpolant to monotonic data. 6 references.
