Method and apparatus for maximizing internal combustion engine work output by controlled heat release
This patent describes an improved expansible chamber heat engine of the type having cyclical compression and expansion of fluid introduced into a chamber during each engine cycle. The compression and expansion of the fluid is caused by cyclical movement of a movable element defining in part the chamber. The movable element reaches a position during each engine cycle corresponding to minimum chamber volume to cause the compression of the fluid and means for causing an addition of heat to the fluid during each engine cycle while the fluid is compressed in the chamber. The improvement consists of means for initiating the addition of the heat at a point substantially later in the cycle after the movable element reaches the position of minimum chamber volume.
