Supercharger for automobile engines
This patent describes a supercharger comprising: a housing having a longitudinal axis and being constructed from sections, which sections are connected in end-to-end relationship; bearing assemblies removably implaced in the bearing supports, the bearing assemblies receiving the compressor shaft; an axial compressor located within the axial compressor duct and secured to the shaft to be rotatable therewith, the axial compressor drawing a flow from the inlet of the front housing section and imparting an initial compression to the flow; a radial compressor located within the casing and secured to the shaft to be rotatable; at least one pulley wheel secured to the compressor shaft and adapted to receive drive belts; spacers fitted upon the compressor shaft for axially positioning the axial compressor and the radial compressor relative to each other; and means for securing the compressor shaft against axial displacement; wherein the transition duct favorably directs the output of the axial compressor into the inlet of the radial compressor and the exhaust cone section encloses sufficient volume to moderate the output of the radial compressor.
