Search for grand unification groups

The search for a local symmetry group for grand unified theories is carried out, using group-theoretical techniques. For grand unification of particles and antiparticles, we prove the uniqueness of SU(5) and SO(10) models under some reasonable assumptions. For grand unification of particles, we justify the Pati-Salam models. In both cases, electric charges of quarks and leptons are intimately related to the choice of grand unification groups. In the former, we show that electric charges of quarks must be 2/3 and -1/3. The color group must be SU(3) with triplet-colored quarks. In the latter, the electric charges of particles, (2/3, -1/3, 0, -1) almost fix grand unification groups. We give a rather detailed review of group theory, in order to prove the statements above.
