An investigation of the nature of magnetic ordering and the dependence of the magnetic-ordering temperature on x in the Ho(Rh/sub 1-x/Ir/sub x/)/sub 4/B/sub 4/ system has been carried out be means of low-temperature heat capacity, ac magnetic susceptibility and electrical-resistance measurements. The specific heat features associated with long-range ordering for x less than or equal to 0.2 and antiferromagnetic ordering for x greater than or equal to 0.5. Unusual magnetic behavior apparently occurs for 0.2 < x < 0.5 including two distinct magnetic-ordering transitions. The results of neutron-diffraction measurements for x = 0.15 are also presented.
