Application of automated miner-bolters in coal mine development

The results of a study of the production potential of the Joy automated miner-bolter (AMB) in 3- and 6-entry layouts are presented and are compared to a full-face continuous miner and an independent roof bolter operating in similar mine layouts. The AMB was shown to have the potential for increasing production and productivity in longwall panel development and in development of main and sub-main entries. It should also improve roof control and increase safety in mining operations.
