Proposed optical pumping of a metastable beam of /sup 3/He

A scheme for production of polarized beams of metastable /sup 3/He has been described. This scheme takes into account the recent advances in laser technology to optically pump /sup 3/He in the metastable /sup 3/S/sub 1/ state and subsequent collisional transfer to ground state atoms. (AIP)
