Conditions in North Sea are improving

The UK sector of the North Sea now has a major new wave of development based on smaller, more marginal oil and condensate fields and southern gas fields. Falling oil prices have been offset by the high value of the dollar in which North Sea oil traded. Both production and exploration in the UK sector are at an all-time record level. Production in 1984 was up 10% on 1983 with total output reaching 125 million tons, making the UK the world's fifth largest producer and second largest offshore producer. Drilling and exploration activity in the North Sea are discussed.
