New dimensions in utility metering. [Cain encoder]

The Cain Encoder, which can be retrofitted to existing power meters, offers low cost, reliability, long life, and the opportunity for frequent readings while protecting the large investment that utilities have in their metering system. Traditional metering has been challenged by the need to allow utilities more flexibility in relating load management to rate structure and by the costs and security problems of on-site human meter reading. While remote meter reading is desirable, the Cain Encoder offers a practical alternative. The encoder's capability for interdial corrections, which eliminates unnecessary and time-consuming computer calculations, adds capacity to the load-management system. (DCK)
