Dry FGD on an industrial boiler

Journal Article · · Chem. Eng. Prog.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5895678
Describes how the first commercial dry flue gas desulfurization system, installed on an industrial pulverized coal-fed boiler, has been operating for more than 20,000 hrs with an availability of more than 97%. Notes that the Strathmore dry FGD system consists of 2 principal items of hardware: the spray dryer reactor and a fabric filter. Presents diagram of a typical dry FGD scrubbing system. Finds that the combination of a pulverized coal-fired industrial boiler and a dry SO/sub 2/ scrubber is a cost-effective steam-generating alternative in capacities above 23 Mg (50,000 lb) of steam per hr. Reports that the discussed desulfurization system has passed all US EPA compliance tests.
