Spur reaction of. H. A CIDNP study of HD in water radiolysis

CIDNP has been detected from HD formed during radiolysis of HOD/D/sub 2/O solutions under conditions where diffusive reaction of the corresponding atoms is prevented by the addition of scavengers, thus proving that at least some of the molecular hydrogen produced in spurs arises from the reaction of hydrogen atoms. The sign of the CIDNP multiplet effect indicates that the H and D atoms formed within the spur have uncorrelated electron spins. The observation of a net CIDNP polarization in HD in the presence of CD/sub 3/OD is explained by reaction of e/sub aq//sup -/ and .H. 26 references, 3 figures, 1 table.
