Adsorption of ethylene in beds of activated carbon

Journal Article · · AIChE J.; (United States)
This paper reports on parameters for adsorption of ethylene on type BPL activated carbon which can provide useful information for design of adsorption columns for separating gases. A table is presented which compares adsorption equilibrium results of ethylene, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. Pulse-response curve measurements are analyzed by the method of moments. Results indicate that reducing particle size improves adsorption rates, that pore-size distribution are necessary, and that intraparticle diffusion has a significant effect on the global rate of adsorption and should be accounted for in the design of separation processes.
