Forsterite-baddeleyite system

Journal Article · · Inorg. Mater. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5894445
Comparison of the experimental and computed liquidus curves showed that the forsterite-baddeleyite system is described quite well by the model of regular solutions and is a simple eutectic system with the eutectic content of 83.2 mole % Mg/sub 2/SiO/sub 4/ and a melting temperature of 2038 K. A thermodynamic analysis of the system established the existence of regions of solid solutions - based on forsterite (up to 1.2 mole % ZrO/sub 2/) and baddeleyite (up to 63.9 mole % Mg/sub 2/SiO/sub 4/) at the temperature of the eutectic.
